Have you ever tried some DIY pampering?

I’ve been playing with various recipes myself and last weekend ran a Mothers Day pamper class with essential oils which was stacks of fun! .. So I thought Id share a few recipes and ideas with you.

WHY use natural skincare

If you aren’t aware, our skin is the largest organ in the body and absorbs everything which means; what we put on our skin really matters!

BUT, unless you have found some top end organic or SLS free products, it can be hard trying to find natural chemical free skin-care solutions that work (trust me, I’ve tried many!!). And while I am still a fan of many products from the Eminence Organics range, I’m also a fan of simple easy skin-care solutions like some of the ones below.

So with that in mind, here’s a few simple recipes you can try out if you are inspired to have a go at some DIY this May.

You will need
• 2 tsp Bentonite clay

• 1 tsp Apple cider vinegar
• 2-3 tsp water
• 1 drop Frankincense essential oil.
• 1 drop Juniper Berry essential oil.
• 1 drop Lavender or Geranium essential oil.

Combine clay, essentials oils, and vinegar in bowl and stir until well combined. Add water as you stir until desired consistency is found (for a thicker mask, add extra ½ teaspoon of clay).

To use – Apply to clean skin, avoiding the areas, eyes and mouth. Leave to dry for 5–15 minutes then rinse with warm water. Follow with moisturizer / or a face serum.

If your skin is dry and needs a good exfoliate, try this one first ….

You will need:
• 30ml Fractionated coconut oil (FCO)

• 10 drops grapefruit essential oil
• 5 drops lemon essential oil
• 6 Tbs fine sea salt

Combine all ingredients!

To use – apply in a circular motion to face and rinse afterwards with warm water. Follow with Glow skin serum or your favourite moisturiser.

Skin Serum – an alternative to moisturizer

I’ve used face moisturiser my entire life but making the switch to using skin friendly oils like jojoba and rosehip have been life changing for me!

With true combination dry and oily skin, most moisturisers would leave me oily if they were too heavy or dry if they were too light. I’ve now found that this skin serum blend works amazingly on my skin for 9 months of the year and  I no longer need to worry about the oily T-zone.

I use this Glow skin serum  every morning and most nights before bed. Now – in winter time – is the only time my skin needs a little something extra on-top (or a face mask for deep hydration). These oils have truly helped balance out my oily / dry skin combination effortlessly!

Makes a 30ml spray bottle

Use 1/3 roller of doTERRAs Sallubelle beauty blend ($97 wholesale)

Or I make my own using:

  • 15 drops of Frankincense
  • 15 drops of Myrrh
  • 15 drops Manuka / Geranium
  • 15 drops Sandalwood
  • 15 drops Helichrysum
  • 15 drops Blue Tansy
  • plus Jojoba and Rosehip carrier oils

Combine all essential oils, top up 30ml spray bottle with half Rosehip and half Jojoba oil, then gently swirl to blend.

To use – wash and cleanse face as per usual. Spray 2-3 pumps into your hand then massage all over face as desired, morning and night. Enjoy the vibrant skin glow and your healthy oil free skin!

TIP – If you love your current moisturiser, you can simply add 1 drop of Blue Tansy / Frankincense essential oil / or a small amount of the Salubelle blend to your normal moisturiser, as you apply it or layer underneath.

Great for warming up the circulation and in a totally edible recipe, try this foot scrub out! Smells ridiculously good.

You will need:

• ¼ cup brown sugar (or course sea-salt)
• ¼ cup cold pressed coconut oil
• 10 drops Lime
• 5 drops ginger essential oil

Warm coconut oil on the stove or in a double boiler. Mix all ingredients in a bowl with a spoon.

To use – massage well into feet and hands, 3-4 mins. Rinse in warm water and towel dry, follow with doTERRA Body butter.

Who doesn’t love a good soak in the bath!? Well pre-bought bath salts are such an overpriced item, you may be surprised at how easy this really is.

You will need:
• 1 cup Epsom salts (or try half Epsom/ half magnesium salts)

• 10 drops essential oil (try Balance, AromaTouch, Clary Calm or Lavender Peace)

Using a bowl add essential oils to your Epsom salts and stir. Keeps well in a sealed jar.

To use – Add ¼ to ½ cup of bath salts to bath. Optionally add a splash of coconut oil if you want extra silky skin, then put on some music, relax and enjoy!

I am in love with doTERRAs Exfoliating body scrub so in this case, I don’t think a DIY can top it!

It is filled with an uplifting citrus aroma and some very nourishing oils which leave your skin so moisturised that you only need to wash off in the shower and you are good to go!  I love to use this body scrub on my lower legs, thighs and feet once a week or so.

I love blending essential oils to make divine perfume blends but that is a topic for another day. If however you are looking for a natural perfume alternative then stay tuned for my recipes, or get in touch with me personally.
