Since eating a largely grain free diet (largely because I have a wheat intolerance) I have been discovering how many tasty raw, high protein snacks there are to enjoy!
Bliss Balls are a favourite in my household, and my son gets one in his lunchbox most days of the week. I enjoy them for a morning tea snack, or meal on the go when walking out the door.
Bree’s Bliss Balls
- 100g walnuts
- 100g Cashews
- 100g Almonds
- 150g Medjool dates (pitted) or normal dates
- 100g Prunes (pitted)
- 10g Sesame Seeds
- 10g Chia Seeds
- 10g Organic Raw Cacao powder
- 5-10g Super Greens powder
- 2 tsp ground Cinnamon
- Optional: Desiccated Coconut / sesame seeds for rolling in
Grind the Almonds, Cashews and Dates until the form a fine blend (about 5 seconds in my Thermomix). Here is my son after helping me make a fresh batch, immediately after grinding.
Add remaining ingredients and blend until combined. Using a Tablespoon to scoop, get some mixture and press firmly to compact it into balls of whatever size you prefer. Roll in coconut or sesame seeds to coat, then refrigerate for a few hours to set so they hold together nicely.
This recipe makes about 10 large balls or 20 smaller ones. They keep well in the fridge and are packed full of protein, energy and good fats plus a hint of chocolate. Enjoy!
** I purchase the Raw Cacao Powder and Super Greens Powder from Health Food stores (Note Cacao is not the same as cooking cocoa, containing as much as 360% more Antioxidants, so do yourself a favour and invest in some)
